In 1950s rural Scotland, Dr. Jean Markham returns to her conservative hometown to take over her late fatherโs medical practice. She meets Lydia, a struggling young mother who has been abandoned by her abusive husband, and her curious son Charlie.
As Lydia seeks work and stability, Jean forms a bond with Charlie, introducing him to her beekeeping hobby. Charlie begins to "tell his secrets to the bees," believing they will carry his worries away. Meanwhile, a deeper and more complex connection grows between Jean and Lydia, blossoming into a romantic relationship.
Their intimacy, however, does not go unnoticed in the small town. As rumors spread, the relationship threatens their safety and the fragile lives they've tried to rebuild. Both women face increasing pressure from the judgmental and patriarchal society around them.
